Gladys Margary (Marjorie) Smiley was the fourth of the eleven children of Thomas Alexander Ward and Marion Harley (Bunn) Smiley.

She lived for three and a half years, dying at the family's Arygle Street, St Kilda, home on 1 April 1902, suffering from laryngitis.

She was listed as Gladys Margary on her birth certificate and Gladys Marjorie on her death certificate.
